Watch out Ikea and Pottery Barn — a new kid is coming to town! On October 7, Crate & Barrel will open in Calgary (the U.S. furniture retailer set up in Toronto a year ago). The way I see it, you can never have too many places to shop for affordable design, and now West Coasters will have one more destination. Now, I know you still have a two weeks to wait before the doors open, but I couldn't resist sharing my top shopping picks from Crate’s fall lineup.

There are many more items to covet, but here's a start:

Abigail Table Lamp from Crate & Barrel

Don’t be fooled by this delicate lamp: its size has great potential. Abigail Table Lamp, $320.

Lyle side chair from Crate & Barrel

A little industrial never hurt anyone. The beauty of the Lyle is that it can be used inside or out. I would love to see these chairs with an old-beat up farm table. Lyle Side Chair, $270.

Wright Flatware from Crate & Barrel

I absolutely love this cutlery! The square, matte, black resin handles contrast beautifully with the stainless steel. The 20-piece set is on sale now for $130 on the U.S. website, so you really can't go wrong! Wright Flatware, regular price, $45 for 5-piece place setting.

Seam vases from Crate & Barrel

If you like the industrial trend but fear the commitment, here’s your chance to add a small hit to your space. Seam Vases, $130 to $150.

Fulton media console from Crate & Barrel
The strong lines mixed with warm solid teak really makes a statement in this collection. Fulton Media Console, $1,599.

City 5-piece sectional from Crate & Barrel

Now, I have to admit I'm a little obsessed with sectionals at the moment. We have just finished our basement and a sectional would be the perfect solution for the space. The clean lines and cosiness of this particular sofa is perfect — now all I need to do is convince my husband! City 5-Piece Sectional, $4,645.

Look for the new Crate & Barrel at Southcentre Mall, 100 Anderson Road South East. Happy shopping Calgary!
