New & Next For 2011

This weekend, Design Week kicks off in New York with the start of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair. The name is a bit misleading — it’s far more than furniture — though most of what’s shown is contemporary, with a range of participants from small single artisans to giant international brands. Here are a few new things to get excited about:

Tom Dixon’s gorgeous Beat Lights are debuting in white. Owners of beachy bungalows and minimalist modern cubes alike, rejoice!

Vienna-based Lobmeyr is presenting a few new glass collections, among them Mark Braun’s Fortune carafes. In celebration of valuing what’s simple and natural, like water, this series of 21 specially designed carafes are engraved with the image of a body of water from around the world.

Spanish textile company Teixidors is introducing its Ecological collection, which highlights the timeless allure of linen (shown in the first photo as well). The entirely hand-created fabrics (sold at Provide in Vancouver) are turned into bedspreads, pillows, curtains and towels in coordinating colours, textures and prints.
