Nautical Finds

At this time of year, many interior design magazines are featuring nautical inspired homes or rooms. I, for one, love it. Blue has long been one of my favourite colours. This is probably because I love looking out at the ocean so much. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Maine every summer since I was four — even if it’s for just a few days, it’s pretty much heaven. Sand, seagulls and that endless blue ocean.

There are several ways to bring that nautical Maine feel into your home. Of course, the blue and white colour scheme works pretty well, but so does anything made from or with rope. Photos of sailor knots and lobster traps spring to mind, too.

Here are a few products that will help to add some texture to your rooms and lend a casual, relaxed vibe. Already looking forward to my next visit to the beach!

I love the tarnished iron bits showing on Anthropologie’s Fixed Rope Handle.

These textured containers are made of abaca rope. Made Goods Yvon Woven Table Top Boxes.

Jonathan Adler’s glossy blue Rope Ice Bucket is about as nautical as it gets.
