South African Design

South African pieces have slowly been working their way into North American homes. As we saw in Lynda Reeves’ “Casbah Cool” column in the March 2012 issue, this trend is full force this summer.

This brings me to the newly released South African art and furniture line from West Elm.

Take a look. Maybe you’ll embrace this new trend through small elements like throws or pillows, or you might jump right in with a piece of furniture or large area rug.

Here are some of the pieces that really stand out to me in this fun collection:

Chevron Crewel Pillow Cover, $42 each. A classic chevron pattern with a twist!

Traditional Masai Choker, $95 each.

Sculptural Canisters, $31 each. These solid ebony wood canisters are gorgeous and would make a statement anywhere you place them.

Shirley Fintz Table Lamp, on sale for $212. I love the shape and colour of this lamp — it would make a fun addition to my den this summer.

John Vogel Chair, $319-$1,276 each.

Senufo Bench, $1,066.

Source Oryx Side Table, $266 each.

Snow Peak Rug, $138-$853.
