We get many invitations at House & Home: new stores, product launches, gallery openings. We attend as many as we can squeeze in, but there's one event I'd never turn down: an invitation to Lynda's house (not pictured). I was there last week to celebrate the upcoming wedding of editor Suzanne Dimma.
I love Lynda's front hall, with its dramatic black walls and black-and-white stone floors with a shocking orange bombe chest (you'll see it in the November issue). Her hardwood looks like it was washed with buckets of espresso for a hundred years, with a lighter inlay tracing around the edges. What always strikes me about the living room (besides that the furniture arrangement changes every time I visit!) are the pools of light. Lynda doesn't have a single potlight. Instead, her rooms glow with warmth from the most wonderful lamps. I left wanting to rip out every recessed halogen I paid a fortune to have installed in our living room!
If you admire Lynda's taste, too, and a walk through her living room isn't in the cards, go for the next best thing. Take a tour of the 2009 showhouse (shown in all these photos) designed and fully decorated by her and the H&H team. It's a dream home in Oakville, Ontario that will be raffled off as one of the grand prizes in the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation Sweepstakes. (Proceeds of the lottery help Princess Margaret Hospital accelerate research and translate scientific discoveries into better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.) There are many ways you can get in on the action:
1) If you live in the GTA, go see the house in person. The house is worth millions but a visit is absolutely FREE! When you go to the house, bring your camera. Snap a photo of yourself in your favourite room and upload it to our special photo gallery. You can see how your shot would look on the cover of House & Home, and then share it with your friends via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter and more.
2) Register for exclusive events and tours led by Lynda, H&H editor Suzanne Dimma, food editor Claire Tansey and H&H's VP Communications (and office wellness guru!) Mark Challen. Hurry, registration is limited and these events are FREE!
3) Take a video tour for a quick glimpse inside the Euro-inspired farmhouse. And return to the site each week for a new tour of a different room in the house, all led by Lynda herself.
4) And, most importantly, buy tickets for a chance to call this house your home. Even if you don't win, you'll be supporting the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in the fight to conquer cancer. What's not to love about that?
