Stylish Hallway Vignette

Build a striking passageway wall with inexpensive Ikea, Chinatown and Craigslist finds.

Michael Penney turned a lifeless spot between a front hallway and a living room into a chic arrangement with a wood console he found on the curb and a baroque-style mirror he painted from gaudy gold to chic black. Cheap blue and white plates from Chinatown provide symmetry and reference the blue upholstered chair from Craigslist. Red Ikea storage boxes were gussied up with ribbon attached by a glue gun. Michael also swapped the original long and skinny shade from the Ikea glass lamp with an Asele shade for better scale and a more sophisticated look.
