Lighter Looks For Spring

House Home Spring Decorating

How to brighten your living room, dining room and bedroom with spring-fresh colours and graphic florals.

From fresh paint to new throw pillows, adding elements of the season’s hottest colours, accessories and textures will make your home design spring to life.

Colour

Those yearning for a change from neutrals will be happy to discover that bold, saturated colours are always trendy for spring. Vibrant pinks, blues, greens, and bright yellows look invigorating and fresh against a backdrop of milky white. Freshly cut tulips in bright colours placed in vases on a coffee table or foyer console will instantly inject spring zing into your space.

Accents

If satisfying your craving for colour with boldly painted walls is too much of a commitment, consider a bowl brimming with limes or lemons on the kitchen table or turquoise blue towels in an all-white bathroom for a fresh spring touch. Change up winter-weary sofas and chairs with slipcovers in cheerful colours like celadon, pale yellow or go for pure white. If you don’t want to change the colour of the entire sofa, try adding pillows in eye-catching prints or solids. Freshen up a dining room with table runners, placemats or napkins in crisp white linen or uplifting colours like apple green, coral or yellow. Replace candle centerpieces with planted bulbs or potted cat grass in pretty containers. Mix and match colourful china for a playful look.

Graphic patterns

Roll up heavy dark area rugs and replace them with some in colourful stripes or graphic floral patterns. Bring the outside in and add an organic touch with nature-inspired patterns, prints or objects. Items like a branch table lamp, bird figurines or graphic floral cushion fabric add whimsy with a nod to the great outdoors.

Refreshed mantel

A fireplace mantel with heavy displays can be lightened up with flowers or a grouping of candles in clear glass hurricanes for an airy feel. Place a flower-filled container in front of the fireplace opening to instantly introduce colour and fragrance to a room. Or add a seasonal touch to a space with a large clear glass vase filled with pretty, budding branches.

Spring linens

In the bedroom, replace heavy dark bedding with breezy white cotton sheets and a light-shaded duvet. Top it off with contrasting throw pillows and bolsters in bright cheery hues.
