The crowd-pleasing dessert is perfect comfort food in fall and winter.
1 recipe for Perfect Pie Crust
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
Pinch salt
8 medium Granny Smith or McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 tbsp lemon rind
2 tbsp butter
Step 1: Preheat oven to 450ºF.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Add apple slices and lemon rind and toss to coat fruit evenly.
Step 3: Fill unbaked bottom crust with apple mixture and dot with 2 tbsp butter.
Step 4: Cover with rolled-out top crust; crimp the edges with a fork to seal. Cut 1/2" slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Step 5: Place the pie on a low-sided baking tray or cookie sheet; place on the center rack in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
Step 6: Turn oven down to 350ºF and bake for 25-40 minutes longer, or until top is golden brown. Allow the pie to cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
