I'm redoing my bf's gamesroom/home theatre room while he's at work tomorrow, I have about 12 hours to do it. I'm doing 12" horizontal stripes around the room in a dark blue and a mid range blue.
I just got back from Rona and the paint guy said that I should wait 24 hrs between coats......slight problem! as I only have 12 hours :( I can't bail on the project now though b/c it's kinda my anniversary present to him and I have lined up some helpers already.
Soooo.....
First of all, all you painters out there, what would you do????
and Second....My current plan of attack is to paint the mid-range blue stripes first, let them dry then tape of the dark blue and paint it. I know 1 coat isn't going to be enough he'll at least get the idea and I can do the other coats later. How long should I wait until I can put painters tape on the stripe to start on the next other?
the colors are Sico New Jean and New Moon
Thanks you for the much needed advice!!!

it's so close now, less than 12 hours till I drive my oblivious bf to work.....it's hard to hide my giddyness from him!
i meant a 2 coat of paint :)
and yes you'll get pics, i just have to resize them :)
a 2nd coat of paint of to tape over the fresh paint? If you mean a 2nd coat I am sure it would be fine. I hope you are planning to show us pictures. :D
good to hear! do you think I could attempt a 2nd coat after 11 hours? or do you think it'd be pushing it?
the wall really didn't take as log as you think once you get the tape up and determine where each color goes it went very quick.
chrome detailing would definetly look nice! if only I had more time.....
Buttercup that wall looks really good, must've taken you awhile!
If you got a 1/4" tape you could leave white bands at the edges of the stripes to avoid the whole problem.
If you want to cover the white band you'd have left, it being 1/4" could be a bonus. If you go to car part supply places they have some really nice self adhesive chrome and other stripeing they use for cars. You could apply that sort of thing over the white if you decide you don't care for it. He might be all impressed with car detailing being a guy and all.
and when the tape was on not showing me the base color I thought it was going to be way too much so it would probably work for you! Here is the wall I did, if you care to check it out!

that's an idea, I would lessen the impact though....the walls are a light builders beige so I could leave a thin stripe of it where the tape is paint both colors.....*sigh of relief*
then maybe later in the week fill the gap in if it bugs me.
Thanks
Would that work with the colors you plan to use, if it does you could tape off all the stripes and you could alternate blue and orange and then you would have current wall color left in between. Does that make sense? Will that work? I would not rush on painting and taping over fresh paint, the guy at the paint store told me to wait 4 or 5 weeks before taping over fresh paint.
