I recently ordered this copper-finish fan from Sears. It will be used on a very large desk in the family room.
The price is nice, at $39.99. A picture is below, beside a picture of higher-priced fans carried at Restoration Hardware.

Oh that's good news! Maybe because ours was a large floor stand one it was noisy... or maybe it was just wasn't built for sound comfort. It worked very well..it just deafened you. Perhaps made of scavenged airplane parts???
I love the retro look of those desk fans. I have a series of black and white photography of vintage office accessories in my offce. One is of a black metal fan on the desk top, like the smallest silver one Dawn posted.
Looks very snazzy!
Dawn, I hope yours is a quiet one too! Pair it with a vintage fountain pen set, it'd look perfect!

My mom had that same fan in a silver finish. I think we got it either at LInens & Things or someplace like HOme Depot/Rona. it was good, not noisy and not too big but had a lot of power.
obella-no I don't think so, it's just in the copper at Sears.
Really nice Dawn
did they have them in a silver finish as well?
I love the look of the old metal fans... one bad thing about them though, they're LOUD. Plastic fans, while cheap looking, are practically silent compared to the metal ones. I had a chrome floor stand one, and you couldn't even hear the tv over the sound of it ,if it was on the middle speed.
We replaced it with a truly hideous industrial yellow plastic turbo fan. It was an eyesore, but it worked great, and you didn't go deaf from it.
thought I'd warn you,
