My daughter, who turned the momentous age of 5 today, wants her room repainted from what I consider to be a lovely shade of soft butter creamy yellow to the dream colour of all 5 year old girls - PINK. Can anyone suggest a not nausea-inducing shade of soft pink? Perhaps one that you yourself has tried? She is lucky in that she gets a decent amount of sunlight in the afternoons (her window has a western exposure). I tried looking in the Ben Moore store today, but nothing grabbed me. I want something soft, yet not washed out looking.
Thank you for any of your suggestions.

Victoria Station 5309 RC
Memphis Belle 5316 RC
Kristy's Karisma 5318 RC

but the next time i'm in Home Hardware i could ask the girl in my paint dept...she might know....the site tells you how to make the canopy and the letters on the wall for the name but not the paint colour...hmmmm....i'll see what i can dig up
Jenjen, that pink on the photo you sent is perfect. Daughter has a Pottery Barn Kids quilt that would look great with that colour on the walls. Any idea what it is? Oh and Foxy, unfortunately, we used to have that exact shade of pink in our hallway (believe it or not - yes, that pink in a public area of the house - we were young and foolish then) and I can't put that on my walls again. It took me too many years to get DH to agree to help me paint that colour away!! I would probably like it for daughter's room if I hadn't already had it before...
Oh and someone mentioned Pottery Barn has paints, I did not know that. They would probably have something to match the quilt I bought from them, wouldn't they?
Thanks everyone for your advice and pics. And yes, I am taking full advantage of the fact that daughter does not know she has a choice - otherwise Bubblegum pink, her we come!
this is cute.....
My oldest has "Barbie" pink on her walls..with a purple ceiling. And I must say..I love the room. My youngest had yellow but wanted pink like big sis..so I brought the pink halfway up the walls and kept the yellow on top and handpainted light pink and yellow daisies all around where the two colours meet. I also painted a huge pink gerbera daisy around her horrible round light fixture. Now the ceiling looks GREAT!! I have to say..I hate pink..but in a girls bedroom..its perfect!!

Yes P&L havea beautiful pink I have seen it. I also like the white detail here on the walls.......as it seems to downplay anything too hot pink. :)
for wall colour is pratt and lambert ballet pink. sorry i don't have the code. it's a beautiful shade of pink - the same colour as the perfect blush pink oxford or dress shirt. i used it to paint colour blocks on my friend's daughter's wall. she's 10 now and doesn't find it too juvenile at that age.
by BM 2002-50 looks like a nice, liveable pink colour. a bit softer is 2002-60 sweet 16 pink keep in mind, it is just paint so if your daughter really wants pink, let her have it. she'll love you for it!
another tip, pick out a few samples of something that "looks" pink and let her pick from that this way you won't be stuck with a hot pink if you really disapprove of the colour...good luck and have fun :)
whooo....that's pink!!!!...but so cool.... ;) ...just like her mom
I can't believe I have not seen this fabulous room! I love the happy colour - and somehow pink in combination with red says "sassy" instead of "sappy". Perfect for a teen!
I can see you went that extra mile or 100 to make it nice - pink chair, pink table legs, red drawers, red and pink curtains - all those great details. It looks wonderful! You ARE the nicest mom!
Hurray for you for being brave enough to let her choose!
The room looks great. Perfect Teen Oasis. She loves it, and that's all that matters. WIth her great accessories it's a very stylish room. Great job both of you!
what a cool mom you are for letting her do that!
i recognize those mirrors.... have them too!!
I also have a 5 year old daughter, who loves pink more than anything! LOL SO we have come to a comprimise, green and pink, which is a combo I love, I am not such a big fan of all pink, maybe this is something your daughter will be willing to do. When my little one was smaller she loved yellow, much nicer for a bedroom.
Wow...That is PINK! She must really love the colour.
HAHA! I hate pink but my 16 year old daughters favorite color is pink. So this past summer she wanted her room redone in PINK...and I mean PINK! I decided to let her do whatever she wanted in there...it is almost blinding. I will try and post a pic but you better put your sunglasses on!
check out potterybarnkids.com for some nice pics of girls' bedrooms. Personally, I am liking dark pink these days, maybe with stripe accessories. Thankfully, my five year old is still ok with the yellow in her room. Her bedding is pink and we had painted littel pink flowers across the top of all the walls. Enough pink to keep her and I both happy.
i thought i was done the pink phase....until many teens decided to make it thier fav color for the moment...i have my 12 and 13 sharing a room and they both want pink and as a matter of fact my oldest who is 14 now but going to be 15 in jan wanted pink too, until she heard that her sisters do lol....however, i do like pink but it has to be soft, not bubblegum..lol so i hope someone can pull a nice shade out of thier hat....although with the kids rooms i dont get too uptight, afterall they have to look at it lol
smiles
