Advice wanted (pics)

This is essentially a Playroom for my two young kids. It's next to our living room, so I've tried to decorate so that it's not a complete and total eyesore.

First of all, I'd take any general suggestion for improvement, subject to the following: 1) the two tall cabinets flanking the window must stay (for now) -- They are filled with toys. 2) Same goes for the white coffee table (filled with Lego and crayons).

Does anyone think I need to put something on top of those cabinets (vase? Art object?) I'm trying to resist the urge to fill up space "just because".

Secondly -- and more importantly -- I've been living with "builder's beige" for a year, and it's time to repaint. Anyone have suggestions for a colour? I love bold colours, and my first inclination is for a brownish-red, but in the entrance hallway we already have a deep, rich red, so that may be too much. My second instinct is for a deep warm brown like the floor, but I'm just not sure. I also have to be mindful of the colours in the room next door, since it's so open.

Wow! I'm liking these richer hues..... in fact, if I'm not mistaken, in real life the room directly behind the yellow/gold wall you've made (which is my home office) is painted in that same yellow..... I just love it. Never thought to pair it with purple, tho.... looks great!

As someone suggested earlier, you lot need to think about making this into some kind of business. I have a name for you in mind, MOCK UPS R US ;) I'll provide the IT side of things, you know security, web navigation and all that.

We can be swimming in the dough before you know it. Just look at those guys from google

I thought I'd try some with a very deep eggplant (my favourite and I did it in one room and it was gorgeous (until recently as I had to repaint for selling).. anyway it's brinjal by Farrow & Ball, deep at night, a little lighter during the day but always rich).

The colours are only approximates.

Jenjen, I've been mostly lurking on these forums, but I've seen these mock-ups you (and others) do, and I think you all should consider making a business of it! I'm sure people would pay to get decorating advice on their colours, especially if they could see the various options beforehand. I know some of the paint companies (e.g. BM) already have a program that does it, but some of us need to have some hand-holding on our colour choices first!

No, I'm afraid not. But one of these days I'll get my act together (or, more realistically, I'll get the kids to clean their rooms!) so that I can take some pics. The suggestions on this forum are great....

Shopaholic, glad you like colour too .... it's a personal-taste thing, of course, but I've been living with all-beige main rooms for a year and it's been killing me! I'm sure you know what I mean!

Wow -- Forget I said "orange" -- somehow, the orange I had in my head was nowhere near a true "orange" on the chip. I think I must be thinking more a deep caramel colour ... more like the floors.

Anyway, thanks to all for the mock-ups -- you sure have got the old "decorating itch" going in me!

Wow I love your space and I love that you like the use of color. I would love to see pics of your upstairs and the rest of the house. Do you have an album on the msn site?

I love the grey and think orange and brown would look awesome as well and can't wait to see the mock up. I love deep dramatic colors also.

what assertive colours would you like to see??

Deep maroon/burgundy, maybe dark brown or chocolate colour, maybe even a dark orange, and (thanks to some of the fine suggestions), dark grey.

Uh..... yes, I said "assertive", not "assaultive" :)
That pink sure would keep the party lively, though!

Nothing says assertive than a house witha bright pink family room. Now that would be a house that a man very comfortable with his manhood could sit. You said you wanted assertive didn't you LOL :D

Wow! Thanks for the mock-ups, Jenjen...... Not to impose, but if anyone's up for it, I'd love to see some really deep, assertive dark colours as well, since I'm really rather fearless and quite fond of strong colour.

(If you saw my upstairs bedrooms, you'd agree -- bright deep fuschia for DD, midnight sky blue for DS, and blue-black for bathroom....)
