Afraid of flying?

I am the only one who is terrified to fly? I mean I will take a plane if I must, but have so many opportunities to travel recently to amazing spots and refuse cos I have this fear. The more I fly, the worse it gets...do any of you feel this way, any of you felt this way and found a way to overcome your fear..On long flights, rather than watch a movie, I watch the personal screen that shows you the flying altitude etc..

A kindred spirit!
I fly often throughout the year and don't mind it. I love the thrill of planning my trip, (hate packing) and find flying itself though very boring despite always having a good book. Love travelling and for fear of sounding cliched, "discovering new worlds and people". I am lucky enough to travel extensively (put it down to lots of air miles due to husband travelling almost every week on business) and besides my house, this is where all my money goes. Our son has travelled a great deal (yes, I do pull him out of school occassionally) and he loves it too. Once that bug gets you, you're done!
And yes Danielle, I absolutely have the plane outfits!!! Off to Cabo San Lucas next week for some much needed sun!

I also am terrified of flying....In fact, I won't do it. My husband is an absolute saint, he drives me on our holidays. We have travelled all over the US, from Vancouver to Forida and most everywhere in between. We have business in Kentucky so have driven there 6 to 8 times and have gone lots of different ways and seen lots of country.
I really would like to get over it though because I do miss out on so much. My husband wold love to go to Australia and I would love to go to Ireland and England.
Let me know if you find anything to help you.......

Hi JenJen,
My problem is that I never stop thinking about traveling and I spend almost all my time online reading about new destinations for future trips and exchanging travel info with other people who have been bitten by the travel bug. The best group I've found is TheTravelzine, owned by Canadians (of course!). Why not suggest the group to your parents. Joining is free and the site is non-commercial:http://www.thetravelzine.com/zine.htm

I think dashing woman flying to next business meeting, and you think funky chick on march break vacation! ha. As for who is driving me to the airport, it would be no one other than my new beau!!! YAhoooo. Should be fun, perhaps he will profess his soon to be undieing love to me, and I will get my dream of tears as he leaves..HAHA. Totally kidding. He doesn't realize he is falling in love with me....yet!

I find it funny that you "dress up" like a business person because I have to dress that way for work, and I would much prefer to dress like my sister the teacher! She has a funky dye job, hip glasses, cool shoes! I am always envious of her great style and that she can dress that way for work - she still looks completely professional and appropriate, but much more cool!

now we know why the gorgeous outfit to fly in, LOL.
Who is it that driving you to airport and picking you up? Have a great time girl...you are very cute! I am sure after you leave he will have some down times as will you too.

THey are on my head as we speak! ha. As for people blowing kisses, perhaps a young man I'm dating and who is driving me to the airport will blow kisses at me! ha. Always wanted a BF to drive me to the airport and watch my plane fly off with tears in his eyes!! haha. May be toooooo early for that yet.

That sounds sooo Audrey Hepburn!!! Now all you need are a bunch of loud Greek family members crying and blowing you kisses. I'll send you some of mine if you're ever in Greece!!!!

OMG, I thought I was the only one who planned the plane outfit with serious thought. I'm a school teacher who dresses fine, (no matching turtlenecks with broaches and earring with pumpkins on them...ha!) but when I travel I must wear my finest clothes and handbag because I can imagine myself in a different profession, and althought there is nothing finer than teaching... it's fun to be someone else for a bit! ha.

Elise, my "plane outfit" is up in the air (hehe, no pun intended!!!) but I think cream colour winter coat, new black boots, black pants, and cream turtleneck with kate spade purse.... goodbye teacher, hello business traveler! ha.

...the whole flying, airport scenario like Diva danielle. I remember all of our back home trips to Greece when the plane would land at the old airport away from the actual building. You actually had to emerge from the plane and climb down the stairs to the wild and mad waves and screams from all of the 200 relatives assembled at the roof of the airport.
It was a wonderful grand experience. I remember spending weeks trying to find the best "coming out of the plane" outfit.
Now sadly there's a new airport with the planes pulling into the suction tunnels. It's just not the same.

I love the airport, I love the waiting, I love walking through the airport and watching everyone traveling, I even love the peanuts! haha.

However, I've done a lot of traveling recently with some rough flights (one particular flight into New York City in November was the roughest EVER for me...) I do get a little ancy at times. My seven hour flight to London on Saturday should be good but any turbulence might make me a wee nervous....

I absolutely love flying. I think it's the fact that it's the one place where I don't feel like I should be doing something else. I can just lean back, relax, and not have to think about the laundry that has to be done, the room that needs to be cleaned, etc. I always order a spicy caesar and sip it throughout the flight.. something about the way they make it on planes! haha

yes, I have taken short flights as well as long flights, but really makes no diff for me. I sit there and watch the reaction and faciial expressions of the flight attendants, to see that all is well. Bonus if I can get a peek into the cockpit! Do the pilots look nervous..bothered

Everyday there are thousands of airplanes flying to different destinations throughout the world - short hauls, long hauls and private flights - rarely do you hear about anything happening - then I think about the flight attendents who have been flying for years - then I think of the statistics and that assures me that I will be ok during my flight.

You mentioned that the more you fly, the worse it gets. I was wondering if you had tried frequent short flights in this time.

I'm not afraid of flying, but I'm never at ease about it either. I found I got a lot more comfortable about being in the air when I travelled most often, taking a lot of shorter flights.

I haven't done a lot of flying, but the times I did fly, I enjoyed it. I love the feeling when you're zipping down the runway before you take off :)

However, since 9/11, I haven't been on a plane and I have no desire to fly. We were supposed to fly off to our honeymoon on September 16th, 5 days after 9/11. We drove instead, and ended up losing the $1,000 we paid for our tickets because the airline refused to reimburse us.

I have no fear to fly but I know many do. I have read acticles how some air lines have a group to help people overcome this. It must be dreadful to have this fear and miss out on lovely trips.
I hope someone here knows of some group you could attend. Fendi have you called any airlines based in Dorval to inquire?
Do a google search for:
