Hello there,
I am new to this forum and a proud new home owner. I just purchased a town house and will start renovation in early May. I will have a few contractors coming over for a quote in the next few weeks. Am I expected to provide food and drinks during the renovation? A friend told me that if I want them to do a quality job I'd better. What do you think? Is this an unspoken common courtesy?
Thanks and have a great Friday!

was hubby was an electrician. All that was expected was the use of the washroom. May a coffee once in a while would be appreciated. They get paid enough.
We've had both indoor and outdoor crews work on our house before, and neither group expected food. Occassional snack or cold drink. The thing they liked the most for us to do was turn the radio on while they worked.
I agree when we built DH would go once in a while and pick up Donuts or one he got Pizzas after a really busy week but they were here for 6 months everyday. The contractor told us that his crew was a dry crew and NO BEER. Cold drinks and microwaveuse is enough and most times they would go and sit in their truck and smoke and eat. We also told them right from the start that there was to be No Smoking in or around the house and they respected that.
They do not expect to be fed....any we had here brought their own lunch, but I offered the use of the micro wave to heat anything up they brought. They appreciated that as it was cold and they heated up soup and left over lasagna. I did offer coffee, cold drinks and brought muffins for them. :)
Hi there! Welcome aboard. :)
My husband and I have gone through two major renovations and the contractors have always brought their own food. We always have cold water bottles on hand for them (which not only is easier for clean up, but minimizes the chance of glasses breaking in an already hectic environment). Seems to have worked well each time.
There were a few times when we were making coffee at home and offered them as well, but usually, they were just happy to have the cold water (especially during our summer renovation).
Not a good idea to give beer when they're ready to go home..........you might get into trouble, just my thought.
We're renovating right now and I try and have drinks available and once in a while I'll pick up some donuts and all...but thats if they work weekends. I know people who give beer as well...just a one ot two each and thats when they're about to finish up for the day.
Most contractors bring their own lunch, but would suggest a cold drink from time to time, no beer though, they might not do a good job after drinking one or two ;)
