Hello,
I'm finishing off my attic and have these diagonal boards that I would like to remove, but not 100% sure they aren't critical supports.
To me they look like they were installed when the Walls were first built and just left there.
Any help appreciated. Below is a picture.

I thought that at some point your roof might have been widened, for say a dormer/attic addition? is that possible? if so, they may be the OLD roof trusses; they certaily look older - and beefier - than the outside ones that are obviously holding the roof up. But definitely the safest course is to get omeone qualified in to take a look - could save you a lot of grief and thousands of dollars in the long run !
I find a good rule of thumb is, if it looks like it's holding up the roof, don't screw with it. ;)
I would call a structual engineer. Better to be sure as that would be a big oops.
