i almost picked up a large collection of bulbs to plant in the bed in front of our porch since i pretty much cleared it of what was already there. then i had to stop myself to ask: will bulbs grow in shady conditions??? our house is north facing so this particular bed doesn't get much light...
any other things i should think about before planting them? the instructions on the packages don't seem to be very helpful....

try some blood meal with the tulip bulbs, squirrels hate the smell and stay away.
Yes daffodils grow in shade and the squirrels hate them!!!!.... unlike the tulip bulbs. I have just planted my daffodil bulbs in north garden.

yes some will grow in the shade. Try perennial.com or do a search for spring bulbs shade garden. I think daffodils is one that grows sun or shade. But check it out. Mix 1 Tbsp. bonemeal in the soil under each of the bulbs. The bulbs in the shade will bloom later than those in sun.
