Well, not really "novice", just "slow learner" maybe?Anyway, after 10 years in our home in Calgary I finally got to know about tulips, lilacs, bleeding heart, and lily of the valley. Now we are in a new home in Toronto, and I'm wondering what is starting to come up, and what else I should plant. In our old home, the plants I listed were already there, and I loved them because I didn't do much and they kept coming back beautifully year after year. So I'm wondering what are your favourite plants and why. There are so many plants to choose from, it's overwhelming, a short-list would be a great way to start. Thanks!

Hello Cisak,

Hostas are a beautiful leafy plant that do well in partially shaded gardens. Mine is super happy, and it only really gets light from 4-7pm.

Good luck with the garden!
