I scooped this old spoon display piece from the thrift store with hopes of turning it into a chalkboard. I love the shape of it! I think it would be fun in either my kitchen or my dining room.
The woodgrain you see is actually formica, but I think primer will adhere to it nicely so I plan to use this side. The back is wood that's a little rough. It will be a bit of a challenge to get the strips of wood off the front, but I'll try the blowdryer first to see if a bit of heat makes it easier.
I have a can of chalkboard spray paint, but after rewatching Michael Penny's Make A Chalkboard Mirror online TV segment I'm thinking chalkboard paint wtih a foam roller might be easier.
