Has anyone else noticed that more businesses catering to “home cooked meals” & “gourmet meals to go” are appearing in your city? I’m not talking just about stores that just do catering for parties. Around here they are becoming very popular. Some are getting good reviews for quality, though not necessarily for quantity. I haven’t checked out the prices.
The other popular place is butcher markets, many of which have gourmet style cuts, some cooked some not. Our supermarkets have this service but these butcher markets are even more specialized.
Maybe people are tiring of eating out.

along those lines....we have a "catered meal" program in our town. But instead of homes they cater to schools. Each day of the week the different schools in our town can buy into a "hot lunch". For example.....my sons school is Wednesday. They are sent home a brochure for the next month or two listing the available meal and you check off whatever day(s) you wish.....it's usually $5 a lunch and they get a hot lunch a drink and a dessert. They seem to be healthy homecooked meals...not pizza day. They get spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chicken breast sandwich, make your own taco, with either oven roasted potato or veggies on the side. DS is a big fan of their lunches.....much better than the usual school offerings of Kentucky Fried Chicken...or Pizza Pizza
We used to have a terrific shop that made such great hot foods and salads. You could buy a whole dinner for 1-2 people or buy separately.
Pork tenderloin with mustard sauce, fresh julienne mixed vegs. and potato or rice.
Chicken breast with orange sauce, same vegs, rice or potato.
Linguine alfredo (fresh pasta) & shrimp or spag.(fresh) meat sauce or lasagna (fresh pasta). 3-4 different salads. Great veggie soups.
Samon fillet with dill sauce etc. Meat pies, rabbit stew. beef stew.
Choc. mousse, creme brule, raspberry mousse. Huge choc. almond cookies.
The locastion they rented did not renew leases for anyone so now they deliver your order. You can order by phone or email and they deliver 2x weekly.
They are still looking for a location to open a store front again. It is operated by a couple from France.
you meant were the personal chef-type people that came intoyour home and prepared 1 or two weeks of food and froze it for you, ready to re-heat; they take diet restrictions, tastes and preferences, variety and all that sort of thing into account.
I think as far as quantity goes with this kind of thing, I believe that most of us eat too much, our portions are WAY too big, I know ours usually are (except my morning Raising Bran, which I measure each and every day with a cup measure)
We used one in Victoria for my MIL when I couldn't be there to cook for her and the meals looked good but weren't very good not much better than Meals on Wheels and theirs are just awful my Dad only got them for 2 weeks and cancelled.
About 6-7 years (while in university) my friends and I were thinking of starting such a business where we acutally went to office buildings and dropped off preordered food. Homesyle cooking without all the hassle and clean up. More and more people are working longer hours and just don't have the time to cook...at this point they are usually sick of eating out as well. Been there and done that. This is a great alternative.
