We are thinking of installing an Ikea kitchen- the cabinets look okay to us. Any thoughts or recommendations? We also checked out the local home stores but didn't like their cabinets as much, but if the Ikea cabinets are junk then we don't want to use them. We would be using the solid ash.
thanks,

Thanks everyone for your input on the cupboards. How was difficult was the installation "drama girl"? Did you demolish your old kitchen on your own- any tips?

I also am impressed with Ikea's kitchen cabinets. we have them in our cottage and they take a lot of abuse and are standing up great. the pot drawers can hold a lot of pots and pans and the rollers mechanisms have never faultered. go for it!
$4000 worth of IKEA cabinets and as soon as the floor is in, DH and I will be installing them in our new kitchen. We weren't sure about IKEA quality because they were so much cheaper, but I found out about a Consumer Reports study which ranked them ahead of the Home Depot Brands. (www.consumerreports.org, but you need a subscription to see it). WIll post photos and and comments as soon as I recover from the installation.
We used Ikea upper cabinets as lower cabinets in our TV room (off our kitchen). (We went with the uppers because we needed something that was not very deep.) They look terrific and seem to be good quality - we're happy with them.
