Jen, go to a rug hooking place (old fashioned rughooking) and you can get the dye for your blanket.....good luck with it :)
If the matelasse is 100% cotton you can dye it. Don't use the RIT dyes available at grocery stores- they are not wash fast! In most large urban centers there are stores catering to the fabric dyeing artisans. get agvice on how to do this correctly, follow instructions and do test dyes of fabrics similar.
Dyeing fabric is fun, so enjoy the process. :)
