Exposed Aggregate

We'll be renovating our walkway and verandah and are interested in this type of cement which is very European like walkways, etc.

Does anyone know of any pros and cons using this type of hardscaping?

We don't have too many choices especially to finish our verandah....it's either patterned cement or this and we really don't want the patterned cement because we have seen ones that have discoloured or faded with wear and tear.

Would love to hear your views on this.....much appreciated as always.........

Thanks Jeep for your response. I guess sealing will protect it for a while, same as any other natural stone.

Right now we have a cement verandah but it's pitted and doesn't look very appealing and has a crack right down the middle of it going lengthwise which could be hidden by the bench and a rug. We are very confused on what to do right now, just trying to gather info and prices of different materials.

Both in our other house it seemed to be more than this one but it also was a new house. I have had this one sealed and it seems better.

Jeep, when you talk about loose stones, does this happen all the time after a few years of wear and tear? I know you just moved in to a new house, are you talking about the one you have in your new home?

We have it on the sidewalks driveway and our deck. I love it I like the way it looks and the fact it isn't slippery. One thing you have to watch out for is little stones will always be letting loose and you can drag them into the housr if your not careful.

Smoodgie, thanks for your info.........that really helps....

We have seen concrete tiles which when laid down will look like patterned cement....here's a link to it....I really like the slate brown to go with our salmon coloured house bricks

Our front porch is exposed aggregate. It's not holding up very well :( The winter really does a number on it -- there are a lot of spots where it's crumbling.

Could you use interlocking brick for your walkway and verandah?? There are lots of colours and styles available -- you could come up with a really nice and unique look.
