I would like to hear from anyone who has lowered their basement floor. Success/horror stories welcome

Am contemplating doing this project this year.

Hi There,

So, what are you exactly planning, lowering the floor, is it a concrete floor ( the typical basement ) and you are doing this to get more headroom? Or to install a toilet? Am I on your wave-legnth?

A little pricey isn't it.

There was a great episode of Holmes on Homes the other day which dealt exactly with that. It's on HGTV and it's this beefy construction guy (usu***y in a tank top - very cool) who goes in to people's screwed up renovations and fixes them. Last week's episode happened to be *** about the botched basement floor lowering. There was some good information about weeping tiles, and the job would cost about $30K - that's before the dryw*** goes up!
