Hostas for sun

I know that not all hostas have to be in shade. I searched and have a list of hostas that tolerate morning sun. Does anyone have any favourites growing in the morning sun? Right now I have Sun Power, Liberty, Faith and Paul's Glory but have a spot for one more. Thanks.

I have several varieties of Hosta. Once planted they all seem to grow well in either shade or sun.

Most hostas will tolerate 2 or so hours of sun in the morning, especially those with yellow in their leaves. Since you imply that you have afternoon shade, then your garden is probably suitable for most hostas since it is usually the hot afternoon sun that causes the damage to some hostas.

I have probably 40 or 50 hostas in my garden, but the ones that I like the most are the "Hosta of the Year" award winners: http://www.hostapatch.com/hostayear.php

For example, Sum&Substance is a huge hosta that is breathtaking. The Patriot hosta is smaller but also gorgeous and it has a lot of white in it so it shows up well in the shade of a tree. If you want a hosta with a lot of white in it, but can't find Patriot, then Minute Man is very similar to Patriot. The hosta "June" is a medium sized hosta that is very beautiful, tidy, neat looking plant. Guacamole is nice, but there are many nice ones.

Hostas really respond well to very fertile garden beds, so amend your soil with lots of compost, and some bone meal, etc. when planting.
