House numbers?

I'm trying to find interesting (i.e. unique and/or funky) house numbers - something other than off-the shelf hardware store types. The only ones I can readily find on-line are the country-style custom plates and that's not what I'm looking for. Any tips? :)

Am told that you can even purchase / rent a mailbox in say Buffalo, and then just cross over the bridge to go pick up your stuff when you order something.

I purchased my number from this website - http://www.crafthome.com/
DH thought I was insane, but it's solid copper and unique and since we only need one number, it was an okay investment for me. The only problem I had was with shipping - I had to ship to an american address - which being near the border wasn't a problem, because I know a lot of people who live in Canada and work in the States, however not everyone is in that situation.

I appreciate some of the web site leads, ideas, and suggestions. I think that it's really helped. I know that this is the kind of thing you find at small, independent home or garden shops but unless you're lucky enough to find one - then there's the internet! :)

This just flashed past me on some show & I thought of you. Not sure if this is an accurate description, just how I perceived it might be done. An 8 inch high stainless steel number that was mounted 2 or 3 inches out from the wall with small back lighting behind it. Does this make sense? Just a concept you might consider.

I looked at the ones Cathie sugessted and they are really different I liked them but I would be concerned that they would be hard to read. Just remember that anything you put up has to be easy to read for emergency reasons.

If you live in the Calgary area there is a litle shop called Stealing Home. It is just off of 17th ave. They have some really cool house numbers there. That is where we got our numbers for the old house. They didn't have the number 7 for our now house or I would have boughten some!

Also, did you check out garden centers? They usually have house numbers.

I've been looking for funky house numbers too, but when I couldn't find anything really cool/inexpensive enough I decided to give up and make my own. I'm doing a mosaic with the house number in cobalt blue glass set into coordinating ceramics and glass bits.

I got the idea from a home design show that had a vendor that made mosaic house numbers. They were gorgeous and different, but started around $200. Don't know if you would be interested in this sort of thing? I'm not finished yet, so no pics for now, but when I have some I'll post.
