I would like to cook a whole Salmon for fathers day, as my Dad loves Salmon. I have no idea on how to cook it. I will most likely be cooking in the oven as i will have the barbeque full with other stuff. Just looking for something simple and good. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all who reply.

I had a recipe that I wrapped the salmon in foil as others stated. BUT .. get this. I used about 2 cups of brown sugar and packed it aroung the salmon and put it on the grill in the sealed foil. WOW - was it delicious!! Wierd but really good.
Gotta like that cook dinner and wash your dishes at the same time. I am sure you don't do the dishes but doesn't that seem kinda weird to cook your dinner inthe dishwasher who thinks up these ideas. someone with way to much time on their hands.
There used to be a recipe used that cooked a whole salmon in the dishwasher..... I've never tried this but maybe other forum members have tried this method..... Good luck with your search!
That is exactly how I cook it with salmon you want a hot oven and try to time it so it doesn't over cook.
I do the same thing for salmon as Marma does except stuff it with diced onion and green peppers. Either way it will be delicious :)
Yum...salmon is delicious....lucky dad!
My recipe is pretty simple. I take 2 large pieces of foil to wrap the salmon in. The bottom piece gets brushed with olive oil and the (cleaned and gutted) salmon goes on top. I stuff the inside of the salmon with lemon slices and onion rings (or you can do green onions instead if you prefer). Then I dice up fresh parsley, mix it with olive oil, white wine and a couple of squeezes of fresh lemon juice and brush all over the salmon. Then I wrap it in the foil (sealing all the edges) and into the oven it goes to bake at 375F. I leave it in there around 1/2 hour then I check it to see how it looks. I may leave it in there another 10 minutes if it still doesn't look done. It should turn light pink and be very flaky. There is a rule of thumb though, I think it's 10 minutes per pound. Oh yeah...I rarely use salt when I cook but if you're adding salt just sprinkle it on top before it gets wrapped in foil.
Good luck and save us some! :D
Thanks for that quick reply. At what temperature do you cook it at. And approximatly how many minutes per pound. Your help is much appreciated.
I would suggest looking at the recipes on: foodtv.ca or martha stewart.com
for baked salmon recipes.
There are some good one in both places.
I do not have a recipe but I stuff the fish with fresh dill and lemon slices and wrap it in foil. :)
