Living in an older house is a massive headache. Every time I need to update something, I find that they don't make it anymore. Yet another headache . I need to buy new hinges for kitchen cabinets, but cannot find the type that I need. These attach to the door to the vertical outer edge of frame, I think its the part called the mullion. Standard hinges won't work because there is no way to attach them to the frame which is one big box with no internal panels to divide it into sections.
Any suggestions for sources would be appreciated.

Little updates in house will enhance your comfort in house therefore, I suggest you to get this in your house rather than getting headache from old things.
What a great resource, Dawn. Thanks for sharing.
If you need to special order from a local store, or order online, you will have to find out what kind of hinges they are. You'll need to know what they are called.
Here is a page I found online which has very good information, even if you don't buy from them:
http://www.hardwaresource.com/hinge-resource-center/resource-center/
They cover:
-how to measure your overlay
-cabinet door types
-face frame and frameless cabinets
-how to measure the inset on a partial inset door
-cabinet doors, overlay doors, inset doors and offset doors
I hope this helps. I had the same frustration with my kitchen cabinet hinges a few years ago. Mine are, I think. 3/8 inset and 3/4 offset.
Buyer beware: " Due to the additional work on our end to process international shipments, your order is not returnable unless we make an error in shipping and then, of course, we will correct the error." (that's applicable to Canadian orders, I think)
Another source US source to check out is:
http://www.vandykes.com/
Van Dyke's may have a better return policy. Make sure you are familiar with return policies before ordering online.
I agree with dustbunnydiva in that you should try contacting Lee Valley as they've got lots of hardware over on their site and might be able to help you out: http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/index.aspx
Perhaps if you posted a photo of your kitchen cabinet hardware (as it is currently), we might have a better idea?
Not sure where you live but with things like this you usually need to get out of the big box stores and find the specialty stores (there are stores that do nothing but hardware as well as stores that specialize in 'vintage'). Most of the larger cities have those kind of stores and if push comes to shove there are web sites in Canada and the US where you can often find just what you want. Also Lee Valley Tools is a good place to start if you have one of those near (they also have a website and will ship).
I've had to go through this a few times and have found going to http://www.oldhouseweb.com/forums/ is a huge help when dealing with an old house. There is a forum for post 1900 homes as well as a reference forum where you can find all those companies that make replica items people in old homes need/want.
Take a look there and ask if you can't find what you need by scanning around. There are people from Canada there and all sorts of people who are happy to help you figure things out when you run into old house stuff. It's also a great place to see what others have done in their homes. Loads of inspiration.
Hello, are you talking about this kind of hinge in your kitchen?
