Help...I have a large lavender plant that looks like it is ready for the winter. It bloomed and then seem to turn dead. I'm also looking for a great book that will help me with all my lavender questions...thanks for you help in advance.

My Lavender did the same thing [and I should know better]. Right after flowering, it's best to cut back the flowers AND an inch or two of foliage [which is what I forgot]. If your plant is looking spindly or ragged, give it a hard prune in early Spring. Use the trimmings as cuttings to propagate more. The way a Lavender grows is to let it's tall stalks fall to the ground and then new branches form along the stem.
Any decent Herb book should give you more info - all the Dorsley-Kindersly books are excellent.
Experiment with different varieties. There's more than plain blue and dwarf ones too.
