I’m in the process of purchasing a home. The living room is quite small and not much wall space, it also has a fireplace and out cove which used to be the front porch.
I’m having a hard time imagining a layout that is both stylish and functional (keeping in mind a television needs to go somewhere and in a place where it’s easy to see).
LR 1: from staircase
LR: out cove - front door

To add on to Mrs. Peacock's wonderful layout, you could add more seating, by putting a third chair (or small couch depending on the space) "floating" in the room and facing the fireplace, but back in the room from the 2 chairs in Mrs. Peacock's design. You would have to eliminate the bookcase if you add the additional seating to the living room.
Well, I got to say that this one could be tough. What I see is to leave the tv where it is now in the little room with a chair (or a loveseat) where the lazy boy chair is and another chair that swivels so you could be facing into the living room or turn to watch tv. Put another chair in the corner by the vase with the dried sticks in it and a small side table between it and the fireplace to create a conversation area around the fireplace. A small area rug in front of the fireplace would help define the space. Then, I would put in a bookshelf type cabinet along the wall where the sofa is now and across from it and in front of the radiator, put a small round table (similar to the one in the picture) to hold the mail, keys, etc. This would be a great place to have fresh flower arrangements. Another matching small area rug would be in this area for the entrance way and wet boots, etc. I can see a collection of candles of different heights inside of the fireplace as it looks too shallow to be a working fireplace. I will try and draw a floor plan for you to help visualize.
I have attached my rough drawing. The scale is not right and not sure about the front door but you get my idea anyway.
