I finally bought a 2nd hand treadmill. They are many advertised as people buy them and then for whatever reason lose interest. I set mine up in front of a TV and that works for me. I don't care what it looks like there as the exercise is more important than the room looking cool. Try craiglist or the local paper for a used one. Also call a Fitness Equipment suppier as they may have some turned in for a more deluxe model.
Ta a certain age the weight takes forever to come off. Good luck :)

Yes walking is good for many things including losing weight. I wouldn't want to run or jog either for other reasons than the boob's thing. I don't think it is good for your feet, ankles, etc. But bigmomma have you thought about walking in the malls? I know here they have many ppl walking around the mall inside where the weather can't get you. Plus you could do some window shopping at the same time!! Sounds good to me! :)

If you are interested in finding out about this 'family history' thing, see if your library has a copy of The Schwarzbein Principal by Dr. Diane Schwarzbein. It's eye opening as it explains how our bodies process food and why diabetes, heart disease, and obesity happen. It's all much more food related vs being genetics.

After reading it I really saw how my family wasn't so much in trouble because of the genes as much as they all were raised to eat the same things. Same diet, same health issues.

Anyway, the book will give you some good insights about what and why you should eat if your metabolism has become sensitive. it explains good and bad carbs and fats, why low calorie is stupid (wish someone had figured that out when I was younger so I wouldn't have such a screwed up metabolism now).

Also I hear you on the jogging. I have not liked running or skipping since puberty, forget it, there just is no way and I don't care what the bra says it will do.

No worry there DBD on the fat thing
Seriously though I am trying to get the healthy fat .
I have put on so much weight the last 2 yrs that I am afraid it is going to affect my health big time. Well I hate looking like this too. My mother in law calls my boys the "The Motherless Children" as all pictures do not have me in them only the boys and DH .(pretty sad really)
I started walking again( I cannot jog as I am too big busted and it kills me as the last time I jogged I was black and blue there for a week) and I am trying to eat alot better and less.I just eat out of boredom I swear. I love to bake so that is not a great thing either
My cousin just had a heart transplant and is only 4 yrs older than me ..she is not fat and is active but it is a family history thing for us.

I second the suggestion to look at Splenda and it's recipes. Basically you can use it(in loose form) the same as you do sugar. It also holds it's sweetness and texture when baked (which no other artificial sweetner will do). Add in that it tastes good and they make a brown sugar version and you can use it in a lot of recipes to make them no sugar. It also won't set your insulin off which is why sugar is such a no no when it comes to storing fat.

Also, one warning just in case you aren't aware, you must eat some fat. If you go too low you will develop a cholesterol problem. So make sure you get enough good fats.

The New Weight Watcher's Cook Book is excellent. $41.00 In Canada.
It is a ring binder style, so easy to handle while cooking as you can take the page out if you want, with recipes from soup to desserts and more.
