Hi everyone!
I am a newbie here and I hope someone can help me out! I am looking for assorted buttons possibly sold in a bag. I was suggested to try Value Village/Goodwill but have exhausted those searches. Anyone have ideas? Where else to look?
Thanks for any suggestions!

I did a search on Ebay for buttons and came up with 1,748 hits -- you'll HAVE to be able to find some that you like!!

in my closet! I have tons from my mom & grandma!!
In the late 70's to early 80's I remember ordering a big bag of buttons from the Sears catalogue. (I got two-still have many in my sewing stash! :) )
Here's another place I thought of, and they sell a 1 pound bag of mixed buttons. I don't know if it's the same you may fine in Michaels or not, but here's the page. I ordered some things from here years ago:

wow, that was fast I thank everyone who responded!
I am looking for the buttons to create an original piece of art! yeah I'm not kidding... LOL I am into graphic design and lately I am bored with all kids of paint on a canvas. So I thought how cool to fill out a huge canvas with buttons, they are so colorful!!!
I am signing up for freecycle because I really believe in giving old stuff a new look- how cool it exists....
Also I will keep looking into craft stores and $ stores....
I did find some today but not the greatest deal...
The advice was just what I needed, great job everyone
Cheers
Yes, I've seen them at Fabricland too.
I have seen big bags of assorted buttons at Michaels and Fabricland
How about the craft section of a dollar store? Or maybe somewhere like Michaels in with the kids craft section?
1. If you have a Buy and Sell free-ad newspaper in your area, you could place a 'Wanted' ad under the hobbies/sewing section. You could also place a 'Wanted' ad in the community newspaper for a fee.
2. If there are any bulletin boards in your neighbourhood (grocery store, community center, workplace) where people post furniture for sale, babysitting service, etc., put a notice up there. Sometimes the small thrift/used shops have one, and that's a good spot to post a notice too. If you have any small sewing stores or fabric stores nearby, check to see if they have any boards to post on too. Sometimes they do, so that seamstresses can advertise sewing services they offer.
What are you making?
Join up on freecycle.org for your city and put out a request. There are people like me around who have a zillion buttons (inherited) they would love to get rid of.
I was going to suggest Ebay.ca or Kijiji.ca but after doing searches there myself, nothing seemed to pop up at the moment....
the thing is, I don't know if you can really exhaust your searches of Goodwills or Value Villages, they get new stuff on a weekly, if not daily basis and it's probably more of a matter of lucking out
if you are looking for the things in a hurry, you probably aren't going to have much luck, but if you have time and patience you might find your score :)
I did the same thing when I was looking to learn to knit, I went around to like 4 different Goodwills over a period of about 3 weeks and was able to pick up a bunch of different needles and yarn on the super cheap
other than that, not sure where you're located but there are a bunch of fabric/sewing stores...even a button store on Queen St West in Toronto, just a bit west of Spadina...I seem to recall some having bins of buttons although that was a while ago and not sure how cheap you'd be able to pick them up for :)
