HI Hannafok.
THey are perennials. I have them in my garden, too. And I love them. My only caution to you is this.... while they are a nice little bundle right now, they do have a tendency to double in size each year... you may find yourself cutting them every year now. I love mine, but I've had to cut it down 4 times in 2 years. They spread into huge masses and can grow to about a metre in height in a short time. Cut them back to just above the ground if you want to keep them small (they'll just start growing from new at that point), otherwise, let them naturally die back, and just trim them, removing all dead flower and foilage. They can also bloom later in the year (fall) so wait til they've died back before you cut. If you want to cover them with burlap, that will also help to protect them from heavy snow. But you don't have to.
Another thing you might find is that they may not bloom the second year until much later so don't be disappointed if all you see is a lot of green the second year. I've been told by a green thumb that they can act like mums, and miss a blooming period, occasionally. Don't worry, they will come back eventually :-)
