I lived in Germany for three years and mulled wine or as they call it "Gluewein" is a German winter/Xmas tradition. We have nice memories of sipping it outside while visiting the Christmas Market. I have two versions of the recipe, yours to choose. The second one is a recipe that I got from the Germans. The red wine used should be dry red wine.
Method One:
Ingredients
4 c. water
1 c. sugar
grated peel of one lemon
10 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 quarts dry red wine
Method
Put all but the wine in a big pot. Simmer for 15 min. Add wine and heat gently. Serve hot.
Method Two:
6 oz dry red wine
1 whole cinnamon stick
2 whole cloves
1 tsp honey
1 pinch nutmeg
Heat all ingredients in saucepan until honey has dissolved. Serve in a pre-warmed coffee mug garnished with the cinnamon sticks.
