:hairpull: He is coming for dinner tomorrow night, and I am sick of making the same old same old for him, Any ideas for something new to make....

Oh he doesn’t do tomatoes, he doesn’t like many veggies, he doesn’t like much pasta, but he will eat tomatoes sauce but only over elbow macaroni not long pasta of any kind... He doesn’t like how it feels in his mouth.

Any ideas would be a great help.... THANKS

Slowly he is trying new things, and thats all I ask, he doesnt have to like them, but if he tries them it makes me happy...Every once in a while we find something he likes.

I am sure he loved it and if he is picky eater and a great guy who cares. Rather have that any day then what else is out there. I have lived with it for 34 years and cooking may be boring but life sure isn't. Every so often he lives on the edge and orders something out of the ordinary and I end up with 2 dinners.

I made shake and bake chicken, mash potatoes, caser salad...

OMG! Condogirl just asked for some ideas on what to make for dinner, not a relationship assessment!
Hope your dinner worked out great, and you had some alone time with him.

Thanks Itsjustme.... To be honest if his biggest fault is he is a picky eater... Then I am doing well. We had a great time together as we always do.

OMG, I have only three lil words for this guy..Dont marry him. whatever you do, cause can you just imagine? All kidding aside,my step dad was like that, and my mom is one great cook. Not that he ever knew that, he was just so picky of an eater. He liked this ,but not that, ackkkkkkk. Drove us all nutty, but we sure loved him, and miss him now like crazy since he passed on. So no advice here on what to cook, just think about what you could be getting into..a picky life but one that will be interesting if nothing else. lol.

and CondoGirl, I hope I didn't offend you...I get that second glass of wine into me and my sense of being able to mind my own business tends to get impaired...certainly apologize if it sounded rude...I guess it shocked me to hear of someone so fussy, because my DH will eat anything. Well, not cat food so far

Reminds me of one of my kidlets, who lived on peanut butter & crackers, apples & grapes and puppy chow right from the dog bowl and if I did not catch her in time , the occasion dead fly. She grew out of it and she eats everything now. But I had no time to cater to anyone. Your post made me smile >

LOL, I would have to say I am the babied one, most nights he takes me out for dinner... So really I am just trying to be nice for once, and make him something he will like... We havent been able to go out just the 2 of us for a while now due to the fact that my DDs dad seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. So tomorrow night he is coming over at about 9 by then my duaghter will be in bed, so we are going to have a "date" at home... Other wise if it was a normal night we would be ordering in or going out. with my DD earlier in the night.

Gee if he won't tell you what he wants, I figure that means he is happy with a bowl of cheerios. Really, if he can't be bothered to tell you, I have no idea why are you worrying about it. He gets what you make or fends for himself. this guy must be good to be so babied by everyone.

Umm Yes he should eat normal food, but I cant push to hard all at once, already I have gotten him to eat more than his mother ever has. But I partly blame his parents for this, they never made him try new things, and they don't eat great food at his house KD is dinner... His mom doesnt like to cook that much and neither does his dad... So I guess he is just a product of his enviorment...

a grown man needs to be coaxed to eat normal food????

P*ss on him. He shows up for a meal, here's what 's on the menu. You don't like it, the takeout's right down the street. WTF.

Is there some special reason a woman needs to cater to this kind of crap? My cousin had complications when she had her second child and my mother ended up looking after the first child during the day, and I got him in the evening. According to my cousin, he was the pickiest eater on the planet and had to eat from a divided plate -- no food could touch. Lo and behold, nothing he liked better than robbing out of the cat dish.

Yep cause they are good tickets...LOL not like the crap ones him and his freinds get... LOL

I can understand trying to bribe a kid to eat things that are good for him, but... a grown man ?? I would not spent the $ to bribe someone to eat, I mean after that what's next ???

itsjustme's picture

lol, he has to eat all his veggies for those tickets

I am going to pick up Jays tickets tomorrow for him, as a suprise but he can only have them if he eats what I make for dinner tomorrow night with no complaining...

I'm actually laughing at memories of my husband as I read your post. If you want to talk about big babies, HE'S YOUR MAN! He was very young when I met him and his family almost always ate at home, so most restaurant food was quite foriegn to him when we began dating/eating out a lot. Oddly that worked out in my favour, as my ability to feel quite at home with a menu of varied items in front of me made me seem the 'adventurous type' to him: he thought I was so brave, or WORLDLY!

When we first got married, I knew that he did not like eating meat with bones in it. He even said the thought of picking up a drumstick seemed barbaric to him. To this day he does not understand the hype about chicken wings. I don't actually like those either, but I'm not AFRAID of them! (he was actually afraid of Chinese food. Chinese food restaurants with tanks of crabs or lobsters were particularly frightening to him!) Sounds girly, don't he?

He's still here. I opened with memories because he's changed a lot over the years. Hell, he goes out to sushi restaurants and hasn't really got a clue what he's eating, so he's come a long way. MInd you, there's the chewing factor. I thought of my husband when you mentioned that. I was married almost 20 years when he told me that he doesn't like how ANY well-chewn food feels in his mouth, and that explains a lot. I'll leave it at that, and go swiftly before I'm tempted to use any more of those laughing smileys........

I am sure you can think of ways to bribe him that he won't be able to refuse. ;)

out of the salads you posted he will only eat coleslaw but it has to be the kind from the store that is already made... LOL he also wont eat corn on the cob he is such a big baby the longer this post gets the more I am seeing I must make him try new food... The worst part is picky eaters are one of my biggest pet peeves ever! even my six year old knows she at least has to try everything I make... He wont even do that... Maybe if I bribe him Argos or jays tickets he will try something new for me... HAHAHA

If he's a meat-and-potatoes, home-cooking type, how about sausages with mashed potatoes and green beans? We never tire of green beans around here. Or, if there's a zestier kind of sausage he likes, maybe sausage with cheddar cheese perogies and corn on the cob?

Does he like chicken strips? My famiy likes those, but I usually just do boneless skinless chicken with flour, egg, and spices. (not breadcrumbs)

There have to be more salads he'd like, even if he's not big on veggies. What about coleslaw, bean salad, or potato salad?

I do that every time he comes over, I call him at work in the morning, and ask what he wants for dinner so I can go to the store to pick up what I need to make it.... He always says I dnno what I feel like, and waits til the last min to tell me... I am on a diet to so it makes it even harder...

Jeep's picture

Why not just ask him what he would like to fix. That is what I do all the time with DH as it is easier than having it half made to find out he doesn't like it. Everyday i say to him you tell me what you want and I'll cook it I will eat anything and I don't care what it is.

He likes all those things EWWWW

I am not a fan of chain restaurants, and thats all he likes, we both compromise sometimes so it works out ok. I love to cook, so I thought it would be nice for a change for me to cook for him... LOL

How about mickey dee, wendys, popeyes or chucky cheese? :D

Since he just had pork, how about roast beef? Add mashed potatoes (since he likes it) and the vegetable he likes. Will he eat baked potatoes (thought I'd mix it up a bit ) ? If so, go with steak and baked potatoes and his favourite veggie.

condogirl's picture
condogirl

LOL he would eat the first part of that... But he wont eat grilled veggies... I could eat them every day. This is why we go out for dinner alot, so we can each get something we like.

itsjustme's picture

ok then. How about steak! If you know where to get a good hunk of meat, that is. Not worth it if it is going to be tough and sinewy.

So steak and mash and grilled veggies. :D

What about couscous, a greek salad and chicken or lamb kebabs. Couscous is really easy to make, easier than rice.

Or pork chops, mash potatoes, gravy and green beans or a veggie that he does like.:

He will eat chicken kebabs, but my chances of getting him to eat couscous are 0% ... LOL

As for teh pork chops, mash potatoes, gravy and green beans, we had that last night (we had rice instead of potatoes...) And on Sat ngiht we had a pork roast, rice, salad, and veggies, (he only ate rice and pork) So I think I am going to wait a few days before I do anything that included pork agin... LOL
