What kind of fish do you stock it with? Are you putting any water plants in your beautifull pond.I have got a pond....a teeny weeny one on my deck. It will only hold 2 gold fish.lol

hi...no fish and no plant...strictly for swimming...i put chlorine in it...i treat it the same way you would treat a regular pool...so far so good...no algae or bugs or unwanted reptiles...4 people can swim in it comfortably....and the thing has been a god send with all this heat we've been having and not having a/c in the house...lol...it has to be the best thing that we've ever done and i am so glad that i ended up making it big.,.even though it is bigger than we had originally expected...lol

erinn...the view here is fantastic...even being on a major highway...it's amazing...no neighbours to worry about...lol...that field you see is a farmers field and he grows hay...my lil poochy can roam wherever he wants and not get into trouble...it's great for the kiids too...well worth being ''away'' from alot of stuff...although everything is still kinda close...it's still a drive to get somewhere...if that makes sense...lol

Have you finished the pond yet? Any pics to share?

Hi erin...no we haven't finished it...but we have been working on it slowly...we've decided to add a waterfall...we managed to get the rocks in place and mortar in between them so these babies ain't goin' nowhere...lol...i've been meaning to take a pic to show you guys the waterfall...i'll go out a take a couple...it's not very high...but it will look neat...we decided not to go all the way around with the rocks...just so it won't be as painful...we are going to add sod and some interlock and eventually a lil arbor or pergula...but we still swim in it even tho' it's not finished yet...my boys are in there atleast twice a day...we have to start negotiating on the time that they get out of the water as soon as they get in...cuz by the time we are done negotiating...an 1 1/2 hours have passed...

i is...lol...actually i've been using a dolly for the larger rocks...i wiggle them onto the dolly then wheel them over to the spot and wiggle them off the dolly and push and shove them into place...DH laughed at me when i told him i was gonna do it that way...HA!!!!...i showed him...:D

Jenjen, your ramblings don't bother me. I keep on thinking of you schlepping those huge stones around in this heat! :D
I am glad to see some progress was made today.

I also see you are using the fancy colours and fonts! ;)

Jeep...yup...we are going to put a pump in it...with a fountain head...just something to keep the water circulating so it doesn't go stale and green...we will probably be shocking it and treating it like a pool...DH wants to dye the water...but i said no...i prefer to tan not turn blue from the dye..:D

Are you putting in a filter system so it is safe to swim in. I am researching ponds right now and I am putting in a much smaller pond with a waterfall and fish no swimming hole but you will be able to cool off just sitting there.

what it will look like with rocks around the edge...DH had wanted flat flagstone type rocks...but i was worried about the kids hurting themselves on the sharp edges...so i opted for the round field stone rocks...the liner won't be showing as much cuz i'm adding more water...and they still need to be positioned right

So whats the next step for the pond? It is huge. Did you know what you were getting yourself into (financially too ;) ) when you just casually asked the digger man to dig a wee hole for you? :D

Cat...i knew that building the pond was gonna be alot of work and a whole lot of funds...since i'm pretty much doing it all myself i think that i'm saving a whole lot of funds too though...put it this way...if it wasn't for my luck at the casino last week...it would still be a giant hole in the ground...lol :p

jenjen's picture

we...ok let me rephrase that...I had to make a lil modification to the edge of the pond on the one side...apparently there is a bit of a slope on that side of the pond...so after raising the dirt on that edge...to even it out more with the farther side...3600 gallons is NOT enough...so right now i have my garden hose in there filling it with some more water...good thing the water here is free...lol...i figure probably another 400 gallons...then there's the rocks.....

a raft...that is what you will be helping to build next lol...what fun!!! Gee you could stock it with trout and open a " fish for your dinner" stand. :) Might pay for 1 boy to go to college ..... :p
