Paint colour ideas for various rooms

Help!   I have no idea where to start.I moved into our 1970’s 1000 sq ft bungalow 2 years ago and I am stumped and overwhelmed on how to decorate it.  My husband and I moved in shortly before our daughter was born.  So we decorated her room and that has been it.   I need to pick colours for the master bedroom, spare room (potential nursery down the road), the living room/hall/entrance and the kitchen.  There is a light hardwood that runs through the entire house (with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom).  The kitchen flows into the living room area.  I need ideas for colours, light fixtures, furniture and window coverings.  We don't have much of a budget at this point so making small changes like paint and light fixtures and maybe some linens are the best we can do for now. The kitchen is the biggest challenge for me.  It has almond appliances, and the original cabinets which have been painted cream.  The countertop and floor have a mix of cream, and beige.  The walls are beige and the room just seems really dark and muddy- even though it has a large walk out that is south facing.  I am looking for a colour for the cabinets and walls, and some potential light fixtures.  Currently there is a hanging stain glass pendant in amber and orange, and a 80's ceiling fan that does not work.  I would also like to do some curtains for the walk out.  I would like to do something in their for counter space like a small island and something like a message centre (chalk board).  I have an antique oak round table with 4 faux brown leather parson chairs.  There is also a sliding glass door walk out to our yard from the kitchen. Although not shown in the picture, I have purchased white bookshelves from ikea to flank either side of the front window.   The couch in the picture is white and dirty so we have a chocolate brown microfiber slip cover for it. I was considering buying some doors for the bookshelf (either for the whole unit or just the bottom half).  I also considered wallpapering the back of the bookshelf for interest.  I would like some suggestions for paint colours, and additional storage, window coverings, including curtain rod etc.   The floor is original and light with a bit of an orange patina, we no longer have the rug in the picture. We have a young toddler at home so everything needs to be child friendly and easy to keep clean. I really like the beach/farm house look- using creams, yellows, light greens and blues.  I would also like a colour suggestion for the gender neutral  nursery (with espresso furniture) and the master bedroom.  i know it is a lot of questions and i appreciate any ideas...  i just don't even know where to start.i am going to try to include some pics...

Hi Tulip76, changing the peachy / brown-ish wall throughout the house would really give you a fresh start.  In the kitchen, I would paint the wall cabinets white and put in a more substaintial modern rug on the floor to cover up the outdated vinyl flooring.  Continue the same grey wall color in the living room works really well with you existing furniture, and just adding some modern accessories would help too.  Good Luck and have fun decorating !ImageImage ImageImage
