Painting Oak Kitchen Cabinets

I've decided to paint my 1980's kitchen cabinets. I'm confused about what type of paint though.I recently read an article in another magazine that did a kitchen makeover like I'm planning on doing. The designer started with BM high adhesion primer and then painted with a BM pearl latex paint. Do you think this would be durable enough? What about enamel or melamine? I worry about using either of them because of the smell and curing time.Any help you can give me I'd really appreciate.

If you want a more durable option you may want to consider Kitchen Refacing. We install new doors and drawer fronts in the style and colour tht you choose. All visible surfaces of the cabinets are also changed to your new colour.Visit www.kitchen911.ca for more information. Hope this helps, Jim

Hello ImJules,

I don't know much about prepping surfaces like that, but Cameron MacNeil might. You can contact him via our Ask A Designer page:

Good luck with the painting!
