I had recently bought this palm tree but unfortunately didn't survive on me, it's dead and will be pitching it out on garbage day. I bought it from Rona and it looked healthy at the time but it started to get brown on me a bit at a time until all the leaves turned brown and started coming off from the bottom. Does anyone know what could have killed it, too much water, not enough water....would love to know because I really like the palm and especially the place where I had it
this is how it looked when I got it
The hallway is painted Vellum and it looks so pinky in this picture.

I think it has enough light because it's adjacent to the bathroom window and I usually leave the door open during the day since no one uses it, so I could get the light in from the southeast side. There is also a hallway window facing that area, so in my opinion it's getting a lot of light.
Now if it needs to be directly by a window, then that's a different story. I have to ask at the nursery and do some internet research too.
looks kinda dark where that palm was. Don't they ned more light?
I got mine recently remember when I had posted the new hall painting. They had a big area of these palms and were only 9.99 but something sticky seemed to be on the leaves and I just ignored it and bought it anyway, that should have been a clue then, maybe some kind of sickness. Anyway, I'm going to be more careful when I go shopping for one, perhaps from a reputable nursery.
Oh, that may be a clue. I saw some plants being cleared out at Rona a few years ago for something like $5. They were big ones too. The woman who was working there said they were all sick but if I took all the soil off and washed them thoroughly they may be okay. I did buy two and still have one of them. The other was also fine except for some stupid movers who decided they didn't want to move it so they broke it (I'm still mad at those idiots for all the screw ups on this move).
Maybe their sales mean things aren't quite up to par?
Yes, I will get another plant soon because the space where I had the other is emmmmmmmmmmmmpty and looks horrible. Would like another palm, perhaps this time I'll go online and do some research on how to look after them, etc.
I did buy this one at Rona on a credit card but to be honest with you wasn't in the mood to fight over 9.99, yes that's how much I had paid for it, maybe that's why it died too, so cheap :biglol:
Bummer. One thing I'll give Home Depot is if you use their credit card they can find anything without a receipt. I had some hooks I bought way over a year earlier that I found when I moved. On a lark I thought I'd see if they would take them back and sure enough, it showed up on my credit card record. I got a gift certificate for them but I still appreciated them taking them back no problem.
So, are you getting another plant?
DBD, I did go to Rona with my palm but since I didn't keep a receipt (yeah, duh) they couldn't honour a refund. I've always had good luck with plants, except for this one, so I wasn't careful in keeping a receipt but now lesson learnt.
You might want to call Rona and see if they guarantee their plants. You never know.
I think I've killed two or three palms. Around here it's usually a matter of too little humidity slowly drying them out.
