I wanted to share pics of our new urn & window box. Thanks to everyone who replied on how to put up the window box. DH and I made the window box ourselves and stained it. I think it came out pretty nice.
I've planted some wave petunias and some perennial vines in both, hopefully I can overwinter them.

Elise...you joker! I might consider doing that once I've renovated the house. I'll need a couch covered in plastic for the winter...and than I'll just serve them hot chocolate while they freeze outside. :)
You guys did a great job! I love the black urn also. Your front entry to your house looks very inviting. Maybe the guests will just hang out on your front stoop and won't mess up your house. How about putting a couch out there also?
You did a nice job with both projects - I especially like the urn and the price is the best that I have seen. I will have to go for a little drive to costco...
Your fromt entrance looks completly differnet with the new walkway, urn & window box! Very inviting. Great job!
Thank you for the nice comments and all the help you provided. I coudlnt' have done it without you guys. Will keep you posted for sure! :)
your window box. It's going to look stunning with that dark blue petunia in it. Also like the urn, what a good price! Hope you keep us udated with pics this summer.

Thanks for the compliment. The window box was actually Cobi's idea. hehe... I feel so privileged getting advice from her.
DH was surprised when he realized who Mark Cullen was and that he had given advice on our garden as well. I told him I'm very well connected. haha
for the great tip. We bought one of those steel bristled brushes and DH tried scrubbing it with that, but it didn't go too well. Will definitely go to HD and look into that solution. Hopefully it'll do the job. :)
Hi mss,
Your window box looks lovely. If you'd like to cleanup the cement, you might try muriatic acid (dilute HCl). That's what is used for cleaning up excess dried grout and also what's used for etching concrete. It's usually available from plumbing supply stores or Home Depot type stores. Make sure you wear rubber gloves and safety glasses; scrub well with a stiff brush and rince well. I understand there are other name brand solutions that may be a bit more user friendly but I haven't tried them.
Best of luck,
Jen
I like the idea of the window box close to your entrance. Very nice! Can't wait to see pictures as the plantings grow! That's what I'm doing this week also. Can't plant yet, still too cold. But getting ready at the greenhouse!
a wonderful start! Great job. Post pics as the season progresses and everything fills in.
You could hide the cement under the window box by planting in some trailing bacopa or lobelia...that would be the easiest but probably not what you were really asking.
Thanks for sharing your pics!

that cement job underneath looks horrendous, any ideas how to clean that up?
