Plate Rail Dilemma

Hi everyone,I need help decorating my dining room. As you can see i have this plate rail in all 3 walls of dining room. Its about 28 inch from the ceiling. I do not like the idea of putting plates on the rail, and rather not paint it over either since there are a lot of original wood trims in this house. If I paint this, i would have to paint them all.I am thinking of putting a couple of panoramic canvas on both of the long walls, either above or below the plate rail? Should I paint the top part of wall to a different color to have some contrast? what else can i put on the plate rail?Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Make the drapes as wide as the the wall the window is on - that will help give the illusion of widening the room.

I done some touch up on your photo based on my opinion. I hope you don't mind. The upper part you can hang some nice photo or art painting. Since the wall art cover a large surface of the wall so you can save money on buying large amount of new paint. Just leave it in original color or in light color to make the photo stand out.The lower part you can put wallpaper. Most economy and efficiency way to jazz up your dining area in just a minute! You can do it yourself too!Put a pair of curtain in bold color as a focus point in the dining room. And also pick a same series color pendant lamp that match with the color of the wallpaper and curtain.I hope you like my color selection and wall arrangement for your dining room. Hope this reference will help you. Please share your photo after done the remodelling. Happy remodelling!
