pruning euonomous

I have (had I guess), a large euonomous bush-about 4 ft tall by 3.5 ft wide. I wanted to move it but realized that I wasn't going to be able to do this easily as the roots were very widespread. I just finished pruning it back to about 12 inches from the ground. Have I just given this plant a death sentence, or will it come back? I am in Kingston, and it was just starting to get new buds on it. Thanks in advance.
