?? re window boxes

Hi everyone, I just need your opinion concerning my window boxes. I have orange begonia, swedish ivy, stained glasswork coleus, english ivy, and white star lobelia (it's the large lobelia). My question is: Is the lobelia to delicate for the rest of the flowers. I have a feeling it is. Should I add another color (yellow or purple) in the boxes. Or any other suggestions would be appreciated. I just find the white is to white??? Maybe it's just me....

It's one of my favourite too, I also have white ones, in an other basket, they last all summer long and look awesome - at least I think so!

So today I'm going to get something blue. There was nice trailing blue flowers (looks like bells) don't know the name that I think would look good. You're right saying that the lobelia with something else trailing would look alright. Thank you everyone.
If any other suggestions, it's not too late, I'm going to the greenhouse later this afternoon or early evening.

Those are really nice together...and I am a real blue or purple fan in my plantings...Here are my favourites ..tried over and over. "Victoria Blue" Salvia, deep blue flower spikes, sun or part and will grow about 12 " keeping well above the geraniums. (2) Blue Nemesia, small snapdragon -like flowers that smell great! for sun or part. They bend slightly and will poke through the other plants as well as growing up to 12". Brachycome, lavender, small daisy like flower which trails, likes full sun, grows 9-12" stays very dainty looking but compact for colour. Your white lobelia will look wonderful and more subtle with any of these plants and also will appear smaller in proportion to your other plants...Nice work. Norm

now that I have seen the pic, I think too you should go with something blue, I looks very nice, swan river daisies might be an option but I actually prefer a darker blue which brings me back to pentunia, lobelia or even verbena, all trailing plants. Hopefully, more ideas will come to me..

I like them so far. I would add the lobelia and something blue or purple to offset the orange.

Lisi, that's what I was thinking. I'm missing color. I usually put wave petunia, ivys, etc. This year I wanted something different, and I'm not sure of the look. I think I need something trailing besides the vines. Maybe if I insert some yellow million bells, or "bidden" I'm not sure of the spelling. I like your look with the purples and yellows also... It's helping me visualize. Thank you for your time!

I placed some flowers in a box just to try, and still feel like I'm missing something, I think it's yellow or blue (purple). I'll add something else tomorrow and see. I'm glad to hear that you think that the delicate lobelia is alright! I find it looks messy! Maybe after the flowers are planted....

Suzie, I love all the plants you are using. In my planters I put geraniums, coleous, bacopa and purple trailing lobelia. I love the difference in color between the coleus (mine is varigated purple) and the white of the geraniums and bacopa. I also love the difference in texture between the large leaves of the coleus and the delicate leaves and flowers of the lobelia.

Your window boxes are going to look so lovely with all those plants. If you are not sure about using lobelia then you might want to look at these plants...diascia, bacopa, and torenia to add to your window boxes. I have used all of these plants before and they are lovely. I used to love lobelia but find it burns easily and looks very dry and brown. I love bacopa, it is one of the plants I always use.

If you don't want to click on each plant but want to see the pictures of each then just move your mouse over the little camera symbol to see each picture.

I can see why you think lobelia doesn't fit with the rest. I have never mixed coleus with my other plants, had them always separate in pots , I actually agree with you. You have rich tapestry with the coleus but unfortunately I can't think of a plant right now which would be more suitable. Artsy and others, help!
