Selecting Area Rugs for Different Spaces

skhan's picture

Hi,What are the rules in selecting area rugs for different spaces in one's home?  Do the rugs from the different spaces have to coordinate with one another?  ie entryway, dining, living room etc?  What happens if the entryway is on the lower floor and the family room is on the second the rugs i select for the spaces have to coordinate?  I tend to like the persian style if i have a rug like this in my living/family i limited to what i can select for my entryway?  ie can't select a print b/c it would clash? And then what about bedrooms?  Do they have to flow with the space too? Thanks! ImageImage

It's a good idea for each rug to relate to each other either through material, color, pattern, or texture.

Hello skhan,

I don't think rugs in different rooms need to coordinate, no, it just depends on the style of each room. If you choose a Persian rug for your living room, I don't see why your entryway a floor below couldn't have a graphic print.

Here are some articles on choosing rugs:

Good luck!
