I planted one of these this spring and it has grown massive this first year. The problem is I had to use a temporary support system just to get it to start growing up.By the time I got something permanent, this vine had already taken off, so I left it.Is it OK to cut this vine back to say 2 feet,or will that inhibit the growth next spring?I am not sure if I should wait until spring and try to unwind some of the growth from this year, which would be quite a job.I understand that this vine grows on old and new wood, but I am hoping that if I cut it back, then it will send up lots of new shoots. What do you think, any advice? Thanks

It's a borderline hardy plant where I live in Ontario. I would leave it be until Spring and cut it back then, it may have some winter die back anyway that you will have to cut out at that time.
