We're thinking of installing new sliding doors in a couple of closets; we'd like them to be wood with exposed, industrial-style ("barn-door") tracking hardware. Any ideas where such hardware may be available? The few places we've found only sell barn-door hardware suited for actual barn, etc. doors that are 1-3/4'' thick - we need something that is more suitable for residential doors, i.e. 3/4''. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Many thanks.

This is an old topic... but I'm new. Maybe you'll see it. For a sliding door with an exposed mechanism, I wonder if you could adapt pocket door hardware. The mechanim is made to install within a wall and add your own door panel, but perhaps you could install it on the outside. You may have to paint the hardware or dress it in some way. Just a thought.
I too have been looking and have been told that "Acklands-Grainger" here in Vancouver sells the hardware.
Also, what you can do is add some 1x4 trim around your door, which will also cover the hole from the door knob, and either finish it will more trim to make a panel door, or just paint it out.
