Snowflake decorations

HHassist's picture

I'm thinking of decorating the Christmas tree this year using a snowflake them. I just bought some balls & ribbon at Rona, but I need more!!

Does anyone have any ideas for making snowflake decorations?? I was thinking of buying some clear glass balls and doing glass etching of snowflakes on them. But I also want some decorations that are shaped like snowflakes.

Or, has anyone seen any interesting snowflake decorations at stores like Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Zellers, etc.??

Any suggestions would be appreciated :-)

Thanks for the compliment, Dekota_Skye :-) Before I started, I had a picture in my mind of how I wanted the tree to look. It turned out better than I expected :-)

The blue decorations are iredescent blue/purple balls that I got at Rona, and the holgram paper snowflakes that I made.

The tree makes the family room look so bright and festive. It's a bummer that I'll have to take it down after the holidays -- the room will look so bare and boring!! Ah well, I'll enjoy it while I can....

Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions :-) I read the last two posts today after I finished decorating the tree -- but that's not to say that I can't pick up or make a few more decorations :-)

Dawn, I found some glass icicles at Loblaws that I put on the tree. Although your suggestion of plastic ones is probably better -- we've got two dogs and two cats, so there's always the possibility that the tree might hit the deck!!

I saw some nice snowflake decorations on a tree at a sports bar on Friday night. They were apparently given to the bar from Moosehead Brewery and aren't available to buy. So, I figured out a way to make my own -- I found a snowflake pattern on the Net, printed it out and traced it onto a piece of styrofoam (the kind that packaged meat comes on, but this one was new), cut out the styrofoam snowflake, used spary adhesive to glue on a piece of silver hologram wrapping paper, and then cut the paper around the snowflake. I was a bit apprehensive about whether or not this method would work, but it did :-)

Dekota_Skye, the wood snowflakes that you painted silver must look really pretty :-) We don't have Kent stores in my area, but I'll do a Net search and see if I can find some -- if not, I just may take you up on your offer to pick some up for me :-)

Here's my snowflake tree -- what do you think??

DO you have a Kent Home Improvement Centre near you? I was there last night and found some wood cut snowflakes. They're really nice. I bought 6 and painted them silver, then dipped them in to craft beads. I love them! If you want, I can pick some up for you if it's not too late.... where do you live, exactly?

Yep, Canadian Tire has a great selection of all sorts of Christmas decorations. And good prices, too. I'm glad I checked them out :-)

There really IS more to Canadian Tire than tires ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions :-)

Would you believe I found some nice pewter snowflake decorations at Loblaws?! But then, that's also where I got my duvet cover, so I guess it shouldn't be all that suprising ;-)

I'm going to check out Canadian Tire and Pier 1. We don't have a Chintz & Co. where I live, but maybe they have a web site -- I'll check that out.

Thanks again!!
Just editing to say that I went to CT at lunch and found TONS of great snowflake ornaments :-)
