Spring bulbs in containers

I just saw a piece on planting spring flowering bulbs in containers on "Mark Cullen Gardening". They were already flowering, like you buy from a garden center as potted plants. He mentioned that as early color they are good ideas, because some can handle any late snowfalls that may creep up on us. (eg. Narcissus, and Crocus, and tulips) I was just wondering if there's anyone else from Saskatchewan or Zone 2b that have tried this before and had any success? I think it sounds like a great idea. (Obviously, not to overwinter them in containers, but to see if April would be too early to plant some of these into pots.

Hope to hear some advice!
