Has anyone ever made sticky toffee pudding before??? Is it difficult?? I'd like to try but every recipe I find calls for chopped dates?? This seems weird to me but are dates a traditional ingredient??

My friend just got back from a holiday in Australia and she brought back Sticky Pudding with dates made for Weight Watchers she said it was the best thing she ever ate. I remember ther used to be a cooking show on Food network that the couple lived on a boat and the wife cooked on the oil stove and she made sticky pudding by boiling a can of Sweetened Eagle Brand Milk. She left it in the can a boiled it for about an hour and then removed both ends and pushed it out and claimed it was fabulous.

You've convinced me to leave the dates in the recipe. I've searched several other sites & every recipe so far has dates! I may still add pecans too.

I am not sure but I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I would try it first with the dates. It sounds yummy. I absolutely love that site and find the reviews soooo helpful. If you do change up the ingredients let me know or post it on the reviews for their site. It always helps to see how people adapt these recipes.

I use Epicurious all the time too. That's the recipe I planned on using I just didn't excpect to see dates listed in the ingredients. The dates don't appeal to me so I may just omit them & put chopped pecans or something instead.

As far as I know it is. Here is a recipe off of Epicurious.com They have great recipes and this one gets good ratings. They also suggest in the reviews that you can simply use regular flour.
I always success with this site.
