Struggling with furniture placement and paint colour

I am trying to figure out what kind of furniture to buy (the furniture in the picture is not ours) and how to place the furniture in the room to make the best use of the space.  It's challenging because the main entrance to the house leads right into the living room and there isn't an entryway.  It's also tricky because the fireplace is between the front door, the back door and the kitchen door, which means we can't put furniture in front of it, otherwise it blocks the pathway.  The other issue is the lack of wall space because of the windows.  I would love to hear suggestions on how we can make this room work.  Any thoughts on furniture placement (including a place for the TV), paint colour or window treatments would be greatly appreciated.  I would like to make the room to feel bigger and more open. Thank you! :)

I would consider putting the tv on the wall that the sofa and 2 lamps are now.  Put a sofa across from it and then a chair by the door like they have it now and a chair either between/infront of the 2 smaller windows or into that corner. BUT, snug up the furniture to one another abit more than the picture.  Everything seems so far away from the coffee table, the the table is pretty much useless.  Another option is put the tv on the other side of the 2 windows so there is no window getting blocked by the tv stand.  Also, if you put down an area rug, it really has to be larger.  It should go under the front legs of the sofa and chairs if they are close enough.  These pictures show 5 different pieces of seating.  Try to put in only 3 or 4 pieces and try and tie them together somehow.  Same colour, same fabric or put matching accent pillows on everything.  As for the curtains, do you need the privacy?  I like the lacy valances.  Whether you keep them or put up something else, you could put up roller shades in either vinyl, bamboo wicker, or cloth and when pulled up they could be hidden under the valance.

As for paint colour, get your fabric first.  It could be in your sofa, throw pillows, area rug . . . . and pick a colour from that source for the paint.  With the thousands of paint colours and the technology to colour match, it is much easier to match paint colour to a fabric than fabric colour to paint.

Let us know when you get in there and what your furniture looks like and what you have and we could try and help more at that time.
