Any idea where I can find in Canada, the chalky textured paint in neutral/earthy tones that is so popular in France?. We have just returned from 2 years in France and are in the process of completing the building of our own home. I would really like to use this paint on my walls here, but do not know if it is available. It provides such a great old world feel.

There is much talk around the internet about making chalk paint by adding calcium carbonate, whiting powder, pre-mixed grout, or plaster of Paris to latex paint. It's very much less expensive and supposedly works quite well altho I haven't yet tried it myself so cannot vouch for it. For anyone interested there are several blogs with instructions - here's one: http://nominimalisthere.blogspot.com/2011/09/make-your-own-chalk-paint-for-400.html
Thanks for the tips. I will follow up here in Ottawa. We do have Farrow and Ball available.
So far I have not found it in Canada but have found it here at this site:
http://www.ecospaints.com/products.htm
"ECOS SUPER CHALKY DESIGNER WALLPAINT
A novel ultra-matt chalky designer finish. Highly durable, non-dusting, wipeable and super-breathable; not ideal where subjected to very frequent wetting. This paint, due to it's ultra matt finish, gives a very pleasant impression of evenness, softness and enhanced appearance similar to suede or vellum. Ideally suitable for application by roller.
Coverage approx. 50M²/5L per coat.
Available in, white and 108 colours 5 litre pack"
You could email them and ask about it being sold overseas: e-mail : mail@ecospaints.com
I found this UK site http://www.costellaandcroft.co.uk/paints.html and it list Farrow & Ball as the paint type which we have in Canada. Try to get in to a paint store that sells Farrow & Ball (google it for you area - if you are in Southwestern Ontario, there is Timeless Materials in Waterloo, ON that sells F & B.
A bit more googling around and found this site that list places that sells Anne Sloan paints (meant more for furniture) http://www.anniesloan.com/acatalog/Canadian_Stockists.html It lists places in Ontario, Quebec and B and Alberta.
